Before the race

As part of the celebrations of my 60th birthday, my wife and I travelled to Europe, to Spain and Greece more specifically.

In Barcelona we hit all the big tourist spots, like the Sagrada Familia:


We also visited many museums, like the Barcelona History Museum:


We saw many monuments, like the statue of Columbus pointing in the direction of the Americas:


The big fish sculpture near the beach and the casino:


Design is one of our points of interest, so we always try to go to the design museum of the city we are visiting:


The museum of Catalan art is housed in a grand palace:


We had the most wonderful time there.


Race Day

The race didn't actually happen in Barcelona, but rather in Sant Cugat del Vallès, uma comunidade ao norte de Barcelona.

On Saturday I went there to pick up my bib; the "expo" had one tent. That is it! I had never seen such a small expo in my life...

On Sunday I went back to the city and passed by the multi-sports center near the start line:


I stayed a bit at the finish line and watched the first guys completing the 5K race that had started at 9 am.


Then I went to the start line two streets south of there and found my starting place:


The monastery is the big attraction of the city:

I completed the race in 1h54m41s. Not my best time (third, actually), but quite good anyway.

Jeux FADOQ 2015: 5 km

Back to the index Last year I became a member of FADOQ , an organization for people 50 and older. I became a member in order to play ping pong in one of their tournaments. This year I registered again for ping pong and also for their 5 km race, which would happen at the Maisonneuve Park, very close to my house. On the Saturday before the event they called me at home to inform me that because the weather forecast for Monday was full of rain, the event would happen at the Centre Pierre Charbonneau. For me this was even better, because I train there three months of the year, so I know the place. This morning my wife and I walked there with our umbrellas, it was really raining. Ottawa in 2015

Back to the index I missed my sub-5 by twelve seconds! The day before To go to Ottawa, we rented this beautiful car: My wife liked it very much, it has a few nice extras, like a rear camera to help the driver while going backwards. Here am I, ready to start the trip: On the way: Leaving Quebec, entering Ontario: The Shaw Centre, in downtown Ottawa, where I picked up my bib: After getting the bib and visiting the Expo, we had lunch in a nearby restaurant: At 1h30 pm, we were ready for our bus tour of the course: It was quite interesting, our guide told us stories about Ottawa, the marathon and other things while we were going through the 42 km: Near the end of the tour, the bus emptied out: We find this graphic quite interesting: My wife told me that she had a new respect for marathoners, now that she had gone through the entire course. Back to the index Ottawa Marathon The day before For the fourth year in a row I decided to run t he Ottawa marathon. And this year my daughter would join me and run in the half marathon. My wife and I went on Saturday morning to the Canadian capital, we got my bib and my dau ghter 's as well, because she w ould arrive later in the day. After visi ting the expo we went out for lunch at a nice restaurant near the fine arts museum. We like d the food ver y m uch and the location was also quite good. At 3 pm we went back to the hotel (where we had left ou r car), got our room keys and wen t to o ur room. It was a g ood room, large and with a very good view. The 5K race would start at 4pm, so we stayed in the room to watch it. I liked it a lot that w e could enjoy the race from above , from the comfort o f our room .
